The Muslims conquered the region in the early 08th century AD, and the Moroccan state in the modern sense of the term was established half a century later. Nowadays Morocco is a mixture of all these old civilizations and the modern ones. 

 

The Moroccan economy is based mostly on agriculture and tourism. The country is opened to the international market thanks to its ports both on the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. In this sense, sales of fish and seafood together with the sales of certain vegetables and fruits are the corner stone of this trade. The majority of the population is Muslum. Jews and Christians are minorities but their role in the Moroccan society is vital. The Moroccan society is very diverse and interlinked and its main components are Amazigh, Arabs and Jews.
